Mowhee

How to promote emotional communication among children with autism?

During an inclusive hackathon organized by COmeta, my team conceived a toy design. To enhance its accessibility for children with autism, we advanced the project from the conceptual stage to technical implementation. Ultimately, we open-sourced the complete building guide online to empower more people to easily replicate and use it.

Brief

Open COmeta

An open-source platform that shares best practices, methods, and tools with all individuals involved in the autism community.

Concept

A Fidget Toy

This project was initially inspired by Andrea, an 18-year-old boy with a passion for cinema who struggles to communicate and share his emotions with others. The game's design stems from his personal experiences and his desire for social interaction.

INSTRUCTIONS

How to Play with Mowhee

Mowhee helps initiate and manage conversations. It suggests topics, aids turn-taking, and includes a spring and rotating discs to provide tactile anti-stress stimulation. Customisable and intuitive, it promotes dialogue based on personal interests.

BUILDING

How to Make Mowhee

The process involves 3D printing the body and discs using the official files, printing and cutting out the paper themes, and finally assembling the sanded parts with skateboard bearings according to the guide.
